I’ve got a great sci-fi thriller short film that you’ve got to watch titled The Tunnel. It comes from Norwegian filmmaker André Øvredal, who has made feature films such as Troll Hunter, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, and Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark.
The short originally made its debut back in 2016 and was shown at the film festivals, but it was just recently released on YouTube.
The film is based on a short story by Alice Glaser, and it’s set in an overpopulated future, where “a family returning from a day at the beach have to travel through a tunnel that serves a deadly second purpose.”
The whole time the family is sitting in the car in the worst kind of traffic you’ve ever seen. All the while, the parents are trying to hide their fears of the tunnel from their kids. It’s an interesting and super intense story and setting and I also thought the visuals were fantastic.
When talking about the film, Øvredal said, “I loved the way the short story used an extreme science fiction situation to talk about a very normal family situation, It felt both real and scary.”
