A Quick Recap of the PS5 Showcase Event Reveals Price and Release Date

Post date:

Sony held a new PlayStation 5 showcase today to give fans information about games as well as pricing and a release date for the highly hyped console. I’ve included the full video below (should start around the 1:00:00 mark) if that’s what you want, but the main highlights are that the PS5 will be available in US, Japan, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea on November 12 and then the rest of the world on November 19. The all-digital version of the console will cost $399, and the version with a disc drive will run for $499. This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone after Xbox announced their pricing. So, let’s do a quick rundown of games.

First, we got a very intense trailer for Final Fantasy XVI. The game is billed as a PlayStation exclusive, but I’m starting think all exclusives are only for a limited time. The next game was Spider-Man: Miles Morales which is set to release Holiday 2020. The game takes place in Harlem one year after Spider-Man. Hogwarts Legacy is the next game, and it’s a Harry Potter RPG that takes place in the late 1800s. Next is Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War releasing Holiday 2020. Resident Evil Village is the next game shown off in a creepy trailer. It’s set to release in 2021.

Deathloop is next and will release in Q2 2021. This game is definitely the one that sticks out the most as it is said to be another PlayStation exclusive. Here’s a launch title for fans: Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition. The game will be available digitally at launch. We also got a look at Oddworld: Soulstorm. Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach was next with a terrifying teaser. The Demon’s Souls remake is next. Fortnite was revealed to be a launch title (no surprise there). Finally, God of War: Ragnarok closed things out with a 2021 release confirmed.

One more bit of info was the announcement of the PlayStation Plus Collection. This is a service for PS Plus subscribers with a PS5 that gives them access to a wide range of PS4 titles on the PS5. This will be available at launch. Games included feature God of War, Bloodborne, Monster Hunter World, and Fallout 4.
